New PC: .dll errors and general problems

I recently purchased a custom built gaming PC. It has relatively good specs - capable of playing most games on high settings. However, there's one big issue with it: it seems unable to even launch the majority of games! Thus far, I have only managed to play TF2 and Euro Truck Simulator 2 (demo). Just Cause 2 (demo) and ARMA 2 Free gave me .dll errors, the former downloaded via Steam, whilst trying to launch F1 2012 simply takes me to the game's information page! I've downloaded the DirectX web setup and followed various instructions, none of which solved anything, and I've updated the graphics card drivers. I'm beginning to tear my hair out! I just don't know what's wrong, as I see no way to actually diagnose the problems. At the moment, I have a fairly sophisticated paperweight, an expensive one at that.

I'm wondering if anyone could offer their advice and support. It'd be greatly appreciated.

PC specs:

i5 3570k
Asus P8Z77-V LX2
EVGA GTX 670 FTW
8GB Corsair 1866mhz Vengeance (2x4GB)
650W Corsair TX Modular
Windows 7 64-bit

Thanks in advance.

Well, with ARMA 2 Free it was the notorious x3daudio1_6.dll error. It seems like a lot of players have never been able to solve this problem. I received a separate .dll error from Just Cause 2, but I unfortunately can't remember what it was.

Ive just had the same error with X3DAudio 1_6.dll - with Arma 2 free .
I tried to d/l the 'latest' dirext x files to desktop so i could go thro and find the 'missing' file..
the latest dir.x runtime files from windows only go up to Feb 2007.. of which, only x3daudio 1.0 or 1.1 was available :/ so it was useless.. i didn't run the exe, so directx is as it was with windows 7 .. The latest update from windows for directx 11 seems to be x3daudio 1_7.dll .. there seems to be no way to obtain the 1.6 version as windows will not allow any update/re-install of any directx 11 files...
Does anyone know where this file is available from? Another stupid way windows forgets its customers.. im sure buying windows 8 will not solve this issue either... why cant they just allow d/l of individual drivers like these??
