I need help making a $650 Gaming computer, that would be a good computer, with window 8 in the budget, for games like far cry 3, battlefield 3/4, cysis 3, ect. what is the best option? The moniter is not part of this. This is my first build and I do not need overclocking but it would be nice. AMD or Intel doesnt matter to me i just want good performance.

Solution

Using Passmark as my benchmarking reference I've made this list of the processors you asked about the quality of... Now first, you gotta define what makes a CPU better, is it PRICE?! is it PERFORMANCE! Well I'll tell you! It's a mix of the two... So regarding that, here's there scores regarding performance. The higher number is better!

AMD FX-6300 FX-Series Six-Core: 6488 < WINNER!
AMD FX-4170 4.2GHz Quad-Core: 4842
AMD Phenom II X4: 4321
AMD A10-5800K...

Alright, this is kinda a toughy. What quality are you hoping to run these games at? Do you want maximum quality or are you okay with lowest settings all around? And are you leaning towards AMD or Nvidia for GPU? AMD or Intel for CPU? If you're shooting for the budget that low, I recommend the AMD path.

I am looking for good quality, but it does not have to be maximum everything.

This is probably your best bet for the money. But unfortunately you will not be able to play the demanding games you mentioned at any higher than High settings + Medium textures + FXAA, even if you have a low-res monitor.

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (OEM) (64-bit) ($89.98 @ Outlet PC)
Total: $642.06

Considering the budget, this is my recommendation. This is best if you are only looking to play games here and now. This build would most likely not be the most future proof build. But it would suit your needs just fine. And hey, if you want it cheaper, just swap out the blu ray reading optical drive with something else much cheaper. I just thought the blu ray would be a plus.

AMD Phenom II X4: 4321
AMD A10-5800K: 4696
AMD A8-3870K: 3733 < LOSER....

Now I know you mentioned 6 CPU's, I didn't include one because it scored so low, it didn't belong on the same category of list.

Now, what is the most affordable of these?

Compiling the average pricing of these CPU's the list is as follows:

AMD FX-6300 FX-Series Six-Core: 132.99
AMD FX-4170 4.2GHz Quad-Core: 124.99
AMD Phenom II X4: 79.99 to 99.99
AMD A10-5800K: 127.99
AMD A8-3870K: 85.17

I can't decide for you, but use this information to make an educated decision. The CPU I chose for you in my recommended build was only 53.98 and would suit your needs, and remember the golden rule of PC gaming, when it comes to gaming, your GPU matters more than your CPU.

I looked at everything you got there and I say yes it's good but I wonder if that RAM is compatible with that Motherboard. It has a frequency of 1866 MHz and the mobo supports only DDR3 1333+ (O.C.)/1066/800 will that be compatible? Will it create bottlenecking? I'm not sure... find RAM that speaks well with that mobo or find a mobo that speaks well with the RAM.

Thank you soooo much for this comparison, i think that i will go with the FX 6300 and then a $170 Radeon 7850. How well would that work

FX-6300 is best in your previous post.

This build would be great, but get a GTX 660Ti Boost 2GB instead. Just as strong, and has double the VRAM for less money.

How are any of the GTX 660Ti Boost 2GB's cheaper than the Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 at 169.99 with $15 rebate?

Here's all the GTX 660Ti's at Newegg.com for our OP's reference just in case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=100006662&isNodeId=1&Description=GTX+660+Ti+2gb&x=-785&y=-112

This man has a budget for glaux's sake!

APUs are not meant for a gaming rig. You need a dedicated GPU if you want to play any graphics intensive games like Bioshock Infinite, Borderlands, Portal 2, Skyrim, Assassin's Creed....
