If a hard drive ciruit board is the problem, is it necessaryto erase the disk to repair it?

Greetings,

I have a Seagate hard drive that seems have overheated. It is under warrenty, and I want to send it to Seagate but their website says the wipe hard drives yiu send them. Why can't they just replace the board and leave th disk alone?

because they don't want to be responsible for your data, if all else fail, they send you a different one.
