While i like my gaming rig very much, my brother has an old, old hand-me-down that is the dell inspiron 530. here are its specs:

note this is a tower despite the inspiron name.

2GB DDR2 RAM (memory clock uncertain) Possibly 667mhz
Intel Core Duo E2160 @ 2.2 GHz
Windows Vista 32 bit
320GB, 7,200 rpm Hard drive. Make uncertain

I would like to get this to run minecraft at a serviceable speed on lowest settings. i dont mind going as extreme as overclocking, but i am unable to change the parts due to my brother not wanting to have to change anything
(infuratingly due to the fact i have a nice gt520 on my desk)
current speed
Here is what i have tried already
Disk Cleanup
Defrag hard drive
set 4000mb pagefile
various lag-lowering mods for minecraft itself

thats it. this pc is about 5 years old and has 30gb storage left. thanks for your help

There really is no way we can just buy a new computer unfortunatly. if it were mine i would build from scratch but hopefully you see that this is something for the less power-user gamer, and more the basic tasks, but hopefully recieve that minecraft fps he wants. nothing special, 20-25fps with lowest possible settings is the AIM here.

intresting. there is loads of download manager and pc securty crap on there. didnt think to stop them at startup

the system is a "turd". you are trying to polish a turd. It has been proven a "turd" can be polish BUT only so much. you are looking to polish a particular turd passed what that turd can reflect. the only way to get a better polish on the turd is to change what makes the turd, meaning change parts to up its performance/ shininess.

It is not uncommon to try to get the most out of the hardware you have; that's why some people oc. I always run bare minimum, no point in running extra useless stuff.

The dell bios is locked so can't oc through there but software oc could work. It is a hit or miss if it is compatible though. But even if you did, the issue is the lack of a gpu so wouldn't affect fps for minecraft.
