I just built my first desktop and besides the awful time I had with cable management, thins went pretty good. I pressed the power button, it started, went to BIOS and continued to start installing Windows 7. However, when trying to install, it says I only have like 3950 Mb of space even though I have a 500 GB HDD. If my specs are needed they are: Intel I5 3570k, ASRock LGA z77 pro3, 8 ( 2 x 4GB ) corsair vengeance, 600 watt corsair, 500 GB Seagate 7200 rpm 16 mb HDD. Thanks in advance. It's so frustrating, I was hoping things would go smoothly. BTW I tried changing edi and ah-something ( sorry forgot what it's called) in BIOS. Is it possible I have a faulty HDD or motherboard. I read that you can check if your HDD works by feeling the vibration to know if it's on. If that's the case I think it is vibrating.

Hey, I think it may be that my HDD is DOA. I don't hear and ticking noises from it when I start it up and I just tried using my old HDD in my new build and everythings isntalling and working out fine. I supposed a old 7200 rpm 3.0 Gbs HDD is fine and I'll just return my new 7200 rpm 6.0Gbs HDD. Thanks for the help guys, I'm just glad it's not my motherboard or something else that was having issues.

Reset your c-mos your bios either jump the pins as your manual shows ,or pull the battery out then try again. Is this a new hard drive or was it used? do you have files on it did windows ask to format it? surely a 500 gig drive should show up easy in the bios recheck everything and start with the reset as I said then work from there.. Good luck, oh if you used the drive in another system or app you probally want to go ahead and format the drive to install windows.
