I recently upgraded from a Gskill ares 16gb 1600mhz to a corsair vengeance 16gb 2133mhz kit...The issue is I can't get the ram to run at either 2133, 2000, or even 1866. When I try to get the ram to above 1600 the computer begins to loop in a "update bios screen." Ive tried other ram kits and have got them to run at 1866, but for some reason i cant get this kit higher than 1600. I tried adjusting the timings and voltage and still no luck. Currently im running them at 1600mhz 1.62v 11-11-11-27

MB - gigabyte 990fxa ud3
RAM - corsair vengeance 2133 16gb
CPU - AMD FX 8350

also i dont think my motherboard supports 2133, but it says it can do 2000 (OC)...at this point im just trying to get it to run at at least 1866

No XMP on AMD. It's Intel specific.

You do know at best you spent money for a 1-2% gain. And only in specific tasks like video editing or encoding. Gaming is not affected by RAM.

Have you tried updating the BIOS? Many BIOS updates are for RAM compatibility.

Manually set the voltage, speed and timings in BIOS. It's probably 1.65v RAM. Do FX processors still have ganged and unganged mode? You should be set to ganged. Have you tried different RAM slots?

Have you tried running memtest? You could have a bad stick. 10 to 12 hours for 16GB.

Edit: Says on the product page the motherboard only supports 1.5v memory modules. Odd for an AMD system since the AMD IMC is much less sensitive than on Intel chips but that's what it says.

I don't know unless AMD has adopted Intel technology now. I guess they could have. I thought they used their own proprietary memory profiles.

" Intel Corporation officially introduced the eXtreme Memory Profile (XMP) Specification on March 23, 2007 to enable enthusiast performance extensions to the traditional JEDEC SPD specifications for DDR3 SDRAM."

so i spoke to gigabyte customer support and they tried to help me to get the ram to run at 2133, but couldnt....i coudlnt even do 1866...the reason he said was that amd recommends to use only 2 sticks of ram to get them to run at faster speeds such as 1866...so basically now if i want to use all 4x4 16gb i have to run them at 1600 max...pretty lame amd...i thought fx 8350 would be better than that lol

You can easily test the gigabyte guys theory by leaving two sticks in the mb [ make sure its dual channel] and then try and see if they will run at 1866 , or higher

My guess is that they wont , and the gigabyte tech support guy just wanted the problem to be someone elses and not gigabytes

Let us know what they get to
