I've spent the past few days trying to fix this, but to no avail. I have a SB Audigy soundcard and the sound is perfectly clear for my headphones and mic. What I'm trying to do is use the mic port as a line-in. I enable the setting in Windows 7 to "listen to this device" and when I talk into the mic, I can hear myself. When I plug in a different audio device (xbox 360 in this case) I hear very heavy static. This happens with both the SB Audigy soundcard and the onboard Realtek sound.
I've tried updating all drivers, moving the sound card to a different slot, moving the cables inside the case. I can lower the volume on the mic port down to 1/100 and I no longer hear the static, but I can then barely hear the audio playing.
If anyone can point me in the right direction to troubleshoot further, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.
