Hi im looking at getting either the gigabyte g1 sniper 3 or the asus maximus V formula for my PC.
I am getting a gtx 680 and will want to sli it eventually on this card.
Im going for the 3770k for the mobo, and the RAM i will get 2x8gb at 2400, so im wondering what is the better board for the things mentioned above.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Either board will be great. I'm guessing you're going for the looks because even an Asus P8Z77-V Pro can accommodate two 680s in SLI and is in the same price range.

Both motherboards have great equivalent features.

I'm personally partial to the Asus boards because I like the quality and the BIOS/UEFI is something that makes sense and that I'm familiar with. I also like the fact that you can update the BIOS before you even install any components. You just put the new BIOS on a memory stick, put it in a port in the back of the motherboard, plug in the 24-pin power connector from your power supply then turn it on and hold the BIOS flashback button. It's a pretty cool feature to ensure you have the latest BIOS and compatibility with the latest hardware before you even assemble your PC.

Hi, Great response.
So have you had any hands on with the sniper 3? Yeah i like the look of both but prefer to have the specs on the boards too, is the asus fine for sli? Cause the gigabyte has more slots. From what ive looked up the asus does have a nicer bios and is more user friendly in relation to overclocking. One thing with the gigabyte sniper, will it support 2400mhz 8gb sticks of ram fine? When looking at its memory, it says 1600 and such but doesnt actually specify 2400 which is what im getting.
I like both cards and they both look nice, and both have very similar features, but the gigabyte has more slots but thats about it really, so someone please kick me cause im being a silly child that cant decide lol. Ill be happy with the mobo that can run sli 680's well and ram that is 2x 8gb sticks running at 2400 so someone please kick me and say "yes pick this one" lol.

The Sniper 3 lists support for XMP memory profiles and for modules including 2800MHz on the Gigabyte web site, but not specifically for 2400MHz. It also lists 4 slots of RAM running at 1.5V. Most 2400 MHz kits require 1.65V.

On the other hand, the Asus board lists support for 2400MHz kits and many of the kits on the QVL for this motherboard are composed of 1.65V sticks.

I think you could overvolt the RAM as necessary, but risk damaging the memory controller. The Asus seems like the safest bet if you absolutely must use 2400MHz speed RAM.

Still cant decide which board to go for, i nearly make up my mind then see or read something else that makes me toss up again.
I will eventually dual sli 680's so thats a must have, i am now happy to run 1600mhz 2x 8gb sticks of ram, and will want to overclock my 3770k. Thats all that i want and matters out of the motherboard so can someone just say get this board for your needs?

RAM speed has very little effect on gaming performance, so I wouldn't really get hung up on that.

I like both Asus and Gigabyte boards. They are really the only two brands I'd consider with regard to motherboards at this time. I think they are both solid and have given me no issues with Intel platforms (I have had longevity issues with AMD and Gigabyte boards, though). I just like the BIOS of the Asus boards better. I also like the BIOS flashback functionality a lot. I know you don't use it much, but it's a great consideration. It's one of those differentiators that make me say Asus is moving this market forward.

If you're not doing 3 or 4 way SLI, you don't need the extra slots. Two 680s is a great combination. From a practical standpoint, knowing myself, by the time I start considering a 3rd card, the next gen of video cards comes out and I just pick up two of them. This is why I think the Asus Maximus is the way I'd go.

If you're thinking of 3 or 4 way before the next gen of video cards arrives to the market, go with the Gigabyte.
