Hi, sorry for this rookie question. I have an unknown computer *yes all the letters wore off after 4 years* its a toshiba satellite some L200 perhaps.

I want to know if the sound card *some intel high definition audio device* i would swear i have seen realtek somewhere but cant find it anymore **/ has 5.1 system or just 2.1 or 6.1 i have no idea - and my device panel is not giving any info, also everest nor cpu-z give me any clue.

Is there any way to access these channels, i mean if it were 5.1 i should be able to access those 6 channels through something right?

My final aim is to code in ruby a different sound for each of those channels.

Thanks for reading!

you need to do more research - search the drivers pages at Toshiba for the model laptop you Think you have, and install the drivers... trial and error if you can't find the specs pages that outline the sound chip
perhaps you can find out the specs from your serial number also
have you tried Windows Update? did it find new audio drivers?
