Error 43. Everything tried(I think). Last restort.

Error 43 unknown device with yellow exclamation mark when plugging my Trust Quasar usb headset into my computer.
The headset has worked for at least one and a half month before I start receiving this message. It happened suddenly while gaming with a friend over skype. Out of no where my sound shifted from my headphones to my speakers and I instantly receive the message that my usb device is not getting recognized by windows and getting error code 43.

I've tried everything. Spend 6 hours last night. I've uninstalled all drivers in device manager, also the hidden ones, shutting my computer down, unplugging all usb and then removing the power supply for 20 minuets. Did not help. Then I tried cleaning the registry and deleting the INFCACHE.1 file and then plugging a usb key, which isn't the one I have problems with, so a new INFCACHE.1 was created, then I plugged my headset in and the problem was still persistent.

There is one thing I know I haven't tried and that is to update my BIOS. I am however very unsure about to do that and I wouldn't end up damaging my PC.

I don't know what to do. Please help. I can write pretty much all info regarding my computer system, settings etc.

Much appreciated.

Hello Thent, thanks for your reply.

I have tried my headset in another windows 7 home edition with no problems whatsoever. Both sound and microphone worked. It's only on my own PC I've encountered the problem and that was yesterday. Else my headset and the microphone built in the headset, has worked on full capacity for the past almost two months.

UPDATE--------------UPDATE

After replugging my headset numerous times it seems as if windows finally recognizing my usb as a sound device and I can now follow the process and see where it fails.

When windows tries to install or look for prior driver software in windows folders or windows update - after about one minuet - it fails. It's no longer unrecognized but still does not function at all.

I've been to the headset manufacturer's website and they tell me that this product does not require any drivers nor software to run - which boggles my mind even more. The Error 43 code is gone. I get a new error now. Error 10.

Dear Christian,

I am actually a bit concerned at your approach for fixing the problem. I am not sure what you level of expertise is with the Windows operating system, but "uninstalling all drivers in the device manager" could lend itself to more problems.

- Are there any unrecognized devices in your system when the headphones are not plugged in? If not, make sure you download the appropriate drivers from your motherboard/PCs support page.
- Are other USB devices (e.g., a thumbdrive) recognized properly by your system?

I do not believe updating your BIOS will have any effect, unless the BIOS changelog specifically notes "fixed USB issue..." or some such entry, which you can check on the BIOS revision page.

If your computer can detect other USB devices on your USB port you are plugging your headphones in, that means the USB device header which contains the PID and VID of the device is being properly read by the Windows driver stack - and since your headphones works in another computer your headphone should be read as well.

In the device manager, you should check the device path in the advanced options to ensure that it is the proper PID and VID expected for those headphones. Download the proper drivers from the vendor site, and "update driver" on the unknown device. Point it towards the proper INF and it should install.

Note that this is assuming you did not bork anything else in your initial attempt to fix it.

As to why your device reported error code 43, it is likely there is a bug in the driver that does not handle one of the windows driver request messages such as as sudden disconnect, thus the device/driver entered a weird state and all hell broke loose. You should contact your device vendor for more information.

You should post a new reply rather than edit a previous ;P It makes chronological order a bit confusing.

They probably mean that the standard generic drivers shipped with Windows will suffice. To me this seems like there is either an issue with one of the drivers in your driver stack that is not behaving properly, OR there is an issue with their device.

Have you tried disabling your sound card, then plugging in the device? Lol

Dear Onichikun, thanks for your reply.

I should have been more clear. Not all drivers in device managers - only usb devices. My level of expertise is normal. My knowledge of software, even though it is narrow, is greater than my knowledge of hardware.

No. The only unrecognized device was my headset. Everything else works fine.
"If not, make sure you download the appropriate drivers from your motherboard" - could you specify for a link a guide on how to do that?

Regarding the rest of your post I'll get to it right away!

And btw a update on my problem is here:

Since error 43 is gone now I assume that there is an entry in the device manager for your headset, correct? Could you right click on that, click on properties and see what driver is being loaded ?

I run Linux and I don't remember the exact dialog box for doing it, but it could be loading the wrong driver for your device which is why its reported as unable to start (error 10).

If the device does not respond to the driver as expected, stuff like that happens in windows.

lol yeah I see the order of posts is a bit messy hehe. Thanks a lot for your help btw, much appreciated.

I have not tried to disable my sound card and then plugging the device. I am a complete noob, maybe I was wrong before when I said my knowledge was normal, but how do I disable my soundcard?

I hope this picture can help you: http://imageshack.us/f/607/driverq.png/

It is a screenshot of my device manager + the properties of my headset + the driver information of my headset.

If ther is no error on this device any more try going to the control panel opening sound or audio I forget then go to playback devices then see if your headset is in the list. if it is in the list right click on it and select make this default audio device. i have had to do this from time to time on a USB set I have.\
