The mobo I have only supports 24+8 pin connectors. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars just to to get the system working. I'd need at least 450W (I'd prefer 500W in case I ever want to upgrade anything). I haven't been able to find an inexpensive power supply that supports this, so would I be able to buy adapters for other pin types (ie 20+4 pin to 24+8 pin, or the like)?

Would I just be able to buy a PSU with 20+4 pin and then connect a 20 pin to 24 pin to the 20 pin and a 4 pin to 8 pin adapters? Would this fry my setup?

The 20+4 and 4+4 are to separate connecters and plug into different places on the mobo.

I realized this. However, I would like to know if it would be possible to convert the 20 pin part into 24 pin and plug that into its respective place on the mobo, and the 4 pin part into an 8 pin part that would go also where it belongs...

Newegg is selling a Corsair CX430m psu for $35 after mir. This is a quality psu. The 24 pin will separate into a 20 pin and the 8 pin can become 2 4 pin ones. This is a safe solutions than adapters which can cost $15 to 20 alone.

You can use the 24 pin connecter on the psu and plug it into a mobo that has a 24 pin socket on the right edge of the board. If the mobo has a 20 pin socket you separate the 4 pin part of the 24 pin plug and only use the 20 pin part. the 4 pin plug just dangles. The 8 pin plug go into the socket in the upper right hand part of the mobo. If that socket has 8 pin plug in the whole plug. If the socket is only 4 pin the 8 pin psu plug will separate into two 4 pin plugs. Use either one and the unused one just dangles. Do not cut off the unused plugs.
