I assume your network configuration looks something like this:
[primary router (sky)]<-- wire -->[homeplug]<-- power lines -->[homeplug]<-- wire -->[secondary router (d-link)]<-- wire -->[laptop]
The best thing to do w/ the d-link router is configure it as an AP (since the sky is already acting as your router). You disable its DHCP server, give it a unique IP address in the same network as the sky (e.g., if the sky is 192.168.1.1, perhaps make it 192.168.1.2, just don’t use any IPs being handed out by the DHCP server on the sky router), and connect it to the homeplug LAN to LAN (the d-link WAN port is never used in this configuration).
