Document format problem

I installed Word 2010 but removed it after a short time. Now I have some .docx files on the computer. When I try to open them, Word 2010 tries to re-install, fails and closes the document. How can I fix this? Thanks.

You can try to open the file with Open Office

http://www.openoffice.org/

With this installed, you can save the file as another format of your choosing.
