Well this depends what your trying to achicive. If you want a gaming PC get a i5 3570k and spend the saved money on a better GFX card. get a cheaper motherboard and a better / bigger Psu.

Do you have a preferred budget? Or spare no expense?

Also, resin is right, you don't have to go for the i7 if you are gaming, although it wouldn't hurt you.

You could cut the cost on your motherboard as well.

I am trying to build a gaming pc for around $1,000. The motherboard is exactly what i was unsure about. Any recommendations for a different motherboard?

Unfortunately I do not know much about overclocking. I'm sorry. I am not that hardcore gaming, because frankly I am just not good at the games I play :p

Only reason I was asking is because of motherboards that support it and CPU's as well.
