Hi guys,

I currently have a Powercolor HD 7970 3GB and I'm considering to upgrade to maybe to Sapphire Toxic HD7970 GHz Edition 6GB. Since I can probably sell my old card to a friend.
Just wondering if this is worth the upgrade? Or just keep my current card?

Solution
It is not worth it, man. Sapphire Txoic HD7970 is for people who are running three monitors with high resolution, due to the fact that it has 6G GDDR memory. it is rarely used alone. because one of those card can't provide decent framerate (60FPS) on latest games such as crysis 3 on 5700x1080 at ultra setting. you need to get at least two of this bad boys to get the most of these monsters. hope this helps.
It is really not worth it in opinion. You can overclock your current card and get about the same performance for free. About the only way you would need more than 3GB of Vram is if you are running a Eyefinity setup at high resolution with AA and AF cranked and even then the gpu it self is more likely to become the bottleneck before the Vram. Here is a review of the Toxic 7970 GB you mention: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/toxic-hd-7970-eyefinity-6gb,3264.html

The only good 6GB VRAM is for if you wanted a cheap OpenCL compute board and couldn't afford a pro board with ECC and stuff or for eyefinity in a 2-4X crossfire at 5700x1080 with AA and AF and all settings at ultra. Personally I would love to get one just to try so OpenCL magic... But that is just because I like to mess with programming once in a while....
