I am currently running the latest version of windows 8 on my pc.

Now here is my problem.

Every time I turn on my computer and enter the desktop, command prompt will quickly pop up and then disappear. I am not able to tell if anything is being typed in because command prompt is gone before I can read it.

I have done some reasearch and found that this is normal in windows xp but nothing about this happening on windows 8.

I have amd catalyst control center installed and have read on one forum that the catalyst control center may open command prompt on start up. To test and see if the control center was the problem I disabled it in the startup the menue but command prompt still opens and closes on startup.

I have the most recent windows 8 defender installed and have run a full scan multiple times and it has found nothing to be a threat.

The command prompt opening and closing on start up is beginning to get on my nerves and I would like to know if there is any solution or if it may be a sighn of a virus.

Thanks for the help,

To get to msconfig just press your WIN button and type "msconfig.exe" and press enter.

If msconfig doesn't reveal the program then some additional troubleshooting may be in order.
What was installed right before you noticed the cmd prompt starting like that? From control panel (WIN+X) go to Programs and Features, sort by Installed On and start removing the programs from the newest to the oldest. Make sure to restart the computer between each uninstall and try to reproduce the original issue. If the issue disapears then resinstall that program again and seeif it reappears.

I narrowed the problem down to AMD External Events Utility which is just a hot key puller for the catalyst control center I now have it disabled since I don't use hot keys for CCC.

Command prompt no longer opens on startup!

Problem solved thanks
