Hi everyone,

This is my setup:
-The modem connects to a LINKSYS BEFSR81 wired router.
-Two Linksys E4200 wireless routers are connected to the Linksys BEFSR81
-One Linksys E4200 broadcasts a "personal" wireless network while the other Linksys E4200 broadcasts a "business" wireless network.
-The "personal" Linksys E4200 has an external hard drive connected to it via USB.

-I am trying to ftp into the external hard drive while I am on someone else's internet (WAN).
-I can already ftp into the external hard drive when I am on my local network (LAN) via "ftp://192.168.0.1"
-I've tried typing in ftp://[public IP address]/192.168.0.1 but it does not work.
-When the modem is directly connected to the "personal" Linksys E4200, ftp://[public IP address] works only on the local network (LAN), not through someone else's internet (WAN).
-After getting this working, I want to set up a dynamic DNS in case my public IP address changes but I don't know how. I've tried following the steps for OpenDNS but it was confusing for me.
-I've tried installing both Tomato (Toastman) and DD-WRT on my E4200 before reverting back to the Linksys stock firmware.

Setup a DDNS service so you can hit the Public IP address from the outside...

The 192.... is a LAN (private) address not seen from the outside. I use dyn for it, its free...

can you ping the DDNS you have and get your own public address?

there should be a way to set it in the router.... to forward FTP to the drive.
