Is it normal for a HDD to be loud?

I just built a completely brand new system so I'm not sure what to expect. I first ran my desktop without the HDD just to test things out. Even with the fans running it was pretty silent. Once I installed the HDD and began installing Windows, drivers, etc, it's pretty loud. It also makes ticking/clicking noises? I am running a Hitachi 1TB 7200 rpm, sorry but I'm not sure what cache it is. Thanks in advance.

Solution
Some drives make a "clicking"(its more rumbling click vs a straight out click click click.) noise when they are seeking. Fast actuators are not quiet at all.

You should hear my WDC Black.

Cache is memory(fast ram) on the drive to buffer the read/write operations to make the drive work faster(it does not help sequential speeds or anything, but under the certain work loads, more is better).

Can you check with something like crystaldiskinfo to see the current smart status.
