First Time Builder Looking For A Bit Of Advice

So after years of dealing with laptops i've decided to take the plunge and build my first PC , i'm aiming for mainly gaming orientated (ARMA , Bioshock .ect..) and this is what i've come up with so far with a budget of around £500 .

Corsair Carbide 300R - £62
Coolermaster GX 550W PSU - £58
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 6MB - £75.99
Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 Socket AM3+ 7.1 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard - £54
Asus HD 7850 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E - £135
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz HyperX Genesis - £55
Seagate 1TB Barracuda - £50
Liteon Ihas124 24x Dvd±rw (dual ±r)/ram Sata Drive £14

Any suggestions would be more than welcomed

to be honest, its difficult to fault that configuration, maybe a slightly more powerfull powersupply but i cant imagen that one would cause any problems. It looks like you have done your research

i've heard that CM psu's have issues, not sure which models though. you can research or just get seasonic, corsair or other good brands, i'd avoid CM psu's. though i like their other products

Thanks very much silver , i really tried to read up as much as possible before jumping in so i'm more than chuffed this looks like a decent build . If i wait a week or so i'll be able to get a more powerful PSU so i think i'll do that just to be on the safe side .

@ the 500 quid mark you can get better frames/$$ for an AMD config ^^

i saw a pretty good deal on amazon on hyperx beast sticks i think they were something like 42 pounds for 2x4GB 1866 sticks and 44 pounds for 2x4GB 2444 sticks http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=hyperx+beast
see for yourself

also if you want to have some of the nvidia exclusive technologies such as advanced physx and TXAA then consider the 650ti boost it offers almost the excact same performance as the 7850

also as far as cases go do you prefer a kinda subtle look or the more flashy "gamer" style ?

I'm pretty sure the GX was a bad series. I'd swap it out. If you are getting a 7850 there is no need for a big/more powerful PSU. A 450-500W will be fine. The PSU in batuchka's build is fine.

Yes. I don't like the idea of buying old tech. But we probably don't want to start another AMD vs Intel thread....

That is a nice deal , i think i'll swap out the PSU for batchukas and grab that Kingston RAM off Amazon . Thanks again for the help , even after doing research i still feel unsure when choosing things .

Going for Windows 7 x64 , should still have my disc laying around here somewhere . I know i said it a few times but thanks again for the help and input everyone .
