hello guys I just purchased a new laptop, it's a samsung model number:

NP-RF509-S01TH

intel i7 2630 QM processor 2.0 ghz but apparently capable of turbo boost up to 2.9ghz.

I have checked in the bios and there is no option for turbo boost but there is a hyper threading option which is enabled. How can i check if turbo boost is enabled ? do i have to update the bios or is there an easier way?

Many thanks for your knowledge

You can download the Intel Turbo Boost Monitor at http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031038.htm. It is a free utility that will display processor activity including whether or not Turbo Boost is enabled.

thanks for the reply however i get Server Error in '/' Application. when i click the download link. this application will definatley tell me if turbo boost is enabled or not and provide me with a frequency monitor

Intel's link is probably down temporarily.

Download a program called CPU-Z which let's you see the CPU's clockspeed.

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

Download a program called Super Pi which will stress the CPU. Since it only stress one core you should see the clockspeed go up to 2.9GHz.

http://www.superpi.net/

The max Turbo Boost frequency is based on the number of cores used and the CPU's temp. 2.9GHz can only be obtained when just one core is being stressed and the CPU does not get too hot.
