Buying my first GPU, advice needed

Hi i am buying a graphics card and would love some insight into which card is most suitable.
I have researched the cards i would be willing to buy which are around $400 to $480 and will be used to only play games, for example Skyrim(modded),The Witcher 2, Borderlands 2, Sleeping Dogs and Battlefield 3.

Currently these cards are
AMD:
Gigabyte Radeon HD7970 GHz Edition 3GB = $469
Sapphire Radeon HD7970 3GB OC Edition with Boost= $419
Gigabyte Radeon HD7970 Overclocked 3GB = $410
Nvidia:
ASUS GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU II= $429
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Overclocked 2GB= $419

I have no previous experiences with any of these cards manufacturers as this is my first gaming PC but from what i have seen online the amd cards are superior. Also the Never Settle:Reloaded makes me want to buy an amd card more then an nvidia currently. The monitor resolution i will be using is 1920x1080 and will only be using a single monitor.
I would be thankful for any response's or answer to my choice.
Thanks

my personal prefernc ewould be the 670 because of the Nvidia technologies TXAA advanced Physx ,adaptive Vsync and some others.although the 7970/7970Ghz ed does output more frames it doesn't do it in as a "controlled" manner.it is normally not noticable if you only have one card though it is more of an issue with dual or more card setups.Anyway 7970 is a great choice if you dont mind being without the Nvidia exclusive stuff . as far as vendors go the Asus DCU2 cooler is the best mix of quiet and cool.

Nvidia is more expensive, I dont think you will see any difference if you dont play any games with PhysX.

I woudl suggest the 7970, the gigabyte OC for 410$ looks good. And it has better performance than a 670. I would only recommend nvida in this case if you plan to go double GPU in the future, SLI is a bit more stable than crossfire atm.
