Yes, that's an excellent, well made, fully featured 970 chipset motherboard, it will rock the FX8350 just fine.

You're right about the FX8350, it's a great choice.

Don't forget that many games don't use more than 2 cores. FX 8350 only matches i5-570K in multithreaded applications. In a gaming machine your top priority should be the gpu. In otherwords you can also select an Phenom II X4 cpu and put that save cash on the gpu.

The M5A97 R2.0 is a great board, especially for the price and it can push an 8350 quite well.

The Phenom II is quite a bit less performance, and the FX 8350 vs. i5-3570k argument has been had 1 million times...they are very much on par with each other in many things, and the 8350 exceeds the i5-3570k at anything multithreaded.

Also, if games don't use more than 2 cores, why does BF3 multiplayer use 5-7 cores in my FX 8350? Crysis 3 is just as bad or worse about eating cores too.

Crysis 3 and BF 3 are one of few games that uses more than two cores. Btw mind telling me why AMD used the Phenom II X6 cpu when they presented 6970 or 7970 and had BF3 as benchmark?

the only argument why the OP should select Phenom X4 is as I say in the previous to invest the saved money on a better gpu.

Because that presentation was not multiplayer. Also, let me give you a list of more games that use more than 2 cores:

Planetside 2
Far Cry 3
BF3 multiplayer
Crysis 3
Bioshock Infinite
Tomb Raider

All of them, maybe besides BF3, are very new. AMD has potential and I hope steamroller will be even better.

Or FX 6300 and spend the extra 60 to step up the gpu.
