i bought metro last winter out of sheer excitement and eagerly started playing..
The gfx was simply mindblowing but i am experiencing the game to be damn hard even on easy....
I read on different sites about people commenting how hard it is to kill the enemies when they are the nazis...

But my experience was totally different..
I kicked nazi asses without any problem, instead i find the mutated dog like creatures almost impossible to kill...they drain my ammo and even my healthkits...so what to do now coz i get killed every time i face a bunch of them....
In my experience, one creature drains about 10 bullets and in some places their numbers are enormous which makes me impossible to tackle them..

Initially in the game, i found out a technique of just using my knife and blindly meeleing them..this worked good for a while...
But now their numbers are increasing and they seem impossible to kill...

I am a hardcore stealth and fps player and have played spilnter cell(all) on max difficulties when it comes to stealth and crysis 2 on post human warrior...

So iam an experienced gamer but this experience with metro is really heartbreaking.....and even though the game creates a freakingly awesome atmosphere, those mutated thingies really give me a hard time.....(i started on normal first but because of dying so frequently, i reverted to easy but with no avail)
can any1 help me or suggest me any tactic please...????

Great game. Just finished it. I played on normal difficulty. With the exception of a few difficulty spikes, I didn't have much of a problem killing the mutants. They do soak up a few bullets, but I didn't find it overwhelming (although the "librarians" kicked my butt a few times - you'll see what I mean when you get to them).

Tips -

1. When you're with your commrades, let them shoot and hide behind them so the mutants have to go through them to get to you. They are very accurate and can deal a lot of damage. They will clear many of the mutants when a wave is coming at you. This saves you ammo.

2. When you are alone, shoot for the head and don't be shy about using your granades. Granades are littered throughout the world...

I found one of the key aspects of Metro 2033, and how easy or hard it can be, is proper spending of your cash. Certain types of guns are easy to come by, so don't buy those, buy the weapons you won't get in the wild.

I found if you save up all cash until you can purchase a sniper rifle with a scope, the game is much easier from there on out. I find it important to also have a few different types of guns for different situations. A sniper rifle (they look like hand guns with a scope and added arm piece), an assault rifle, and a heavy gun is very useful. You should also experiment with different guns to get a feel of what is good for your style. I occasionally liked to switch guns to use up stored ammo as well.

It is also key to not accidentally use the ammo used for purchasing as ammo. You can kill your cash flow that way.

I played the game a few months ago, and the hardest part for me was finding Gas Masks and the Librarians. For the Nosalises (the dog-like mutants), try using either the shotgun or your knife, just keep running around while slashing.
For the ones with wings, take a few shots, then duck inside a building (even if it's bombed out), they won't come inside and they'll simply fly away, so you can to repeat the same tactic until they're dead.
The Librarians were tough, what I did was shoot while running (sprint forwards, turn around, run backwards, empty a whole clip into its face).
Of course, you can also evade a lot of the mutants and humans and most of the Librarians except the first one if you're stealthy.

You may be changing your gas masks too often. You can last a pretty long time on a single mask, and I don't recall ever getting close to running out of gas masks.

yeah....mine too lasts for exactly 5 minutes....
and in fact, i never change gas masks.....
i wait them to run out and then i panic and lunatically begin to search for more......
but some times, i am unable to find them and hence i die........lol....
well...a many thnxx to all concerned with this thread.....

You do realize that you can change the filters and have a few on stand by. I forget the hotkey, but you don't have to change the whole mask. Though changing the mask gets rid of cracks from damage.
