Good moment to upgrade CPU + Motherboard?

Hi,

Recently my video card died, so I would like to buy a replacement. I was thinking of 7970 or a 7950.

I have a AMD phenom ii 945 with its respective AM3 socket (not am3+) Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H motherboard.
I think that most likely my PC will be bottlenecked and I will not get the most performance of the gpu because of my processor, so I was thinking in maybe also upgrading the CPU.

Due to my CPU + Motherboard combo, going for the AMD FX-8350 would require to buy a new motherboard as well as going for the Intel i5 way.
But, do you think that right now is a good moment to invest in a CPU? is something coming in the next months that could deserve waiting for it with a bottlenecked system?

Thank you very much!

While there is something coming down the pike (there is always something coming down the pike), The performance from a processor like the Intel® Core™ i5-3570K which will allow you to overclock easily with a Z77 chipset based board. Will allow you to get an outstanding system that should last for years to come.

With the imminent release of the Haswell line, its likely that the 3rd gen processors will see a decrease in cost. Intel however knows that the 3570 (K) is a highly desired CPU and its not likely that those will drop much. AMD may also drop their prices in relation a bit as well to try and steer profit from their competitor.

But like RGD said, there is never a "good" time to upgrade -- buying the best you can afford only increases the future-proofing timeframe
