I have a server that records video from 21 cameras all day. The motherboard has 2 hex cores and 8 slots for ram. if I am going with 32gb of ram, is it better to fill up 4 slots @ 8b each, or use all the slots at 4gb (pc1600, cas11, ddr3 sdram)

Also, is there more speed in registered or unbuffered?
Thanks

I would use less slots if possible because it uses less energy and will run cooler with fewer modules.

You need to use ECC memory if it's a server chipset. It is slower than typical RAM due to the error correction overhead, but you can't get around that.

I'm not worried about temperature. There are 2 banks of mem slots. 4 slots per processor.

Better to go with one bank full of 8gb (total 32), or have 2 8gbs in each bank (16gb on each side)is specifically what I'm asking.

Hello,

It all depends on the server and how much it supports, the memory it takes and the memory population rules. There are various set of rules that are to be followed in order to obtain the best memory configuration. So let me know your server model number that will help me answer your question. Looking forward to your reply.
