NZXT led strip- questionable installation

Hello all. I am new to the PC building game and have an issue regarding safety. I have installed a 2m strip of led lights (orange for my orange/black Phantom- very cool!). I tested them outside the rig and they worked fine. I then screwed them in (this brand fits a PCI slot- without plugging into the mobo) and the lights didn't work. With the PC running I unscrewed the fastening screw (terrible practice I know) slowly until the lights came on. The result is a slightly loose PCI board, that if jiggled causes the lights to switch off. My question (finally): is this safe, will it be OK as long as I don't play football with my tower?

I think its like this one:

Since there is no electrical connection (or ground) on the PCI rear panel, what seems to be going on is that the expansion panel is bending when the screw is fully seated, and that one or more of the components don't like that, so the lights don't work.

As you unscrew the mount the panel deflects less and less and presto, the lights work. Somehow the installation is suspect. Take out the expansion panel and give it a good look, I am betting that something isn’t right with the way you put it in.

It isn't unsafe, but can lead to component damage, as it's loose and can shift.

Many thanks groundrat. Taken it out and had a look, part of the panel is bent (which absolutely, definitely 100%ly had nothing whatsoever to do with me being rough with it. Honest). Bent it with some man strength and screwed it back in and it seems to work.
