I currently have an HP Pavilion Elite H8-1050 with an AMD Radeon HD 6850 graphics card. My computer can run most games at medium to high graphics quality but tends to drop frames when trying to use DirectX11 or Ultra specs. I want to upgrade my graphics card to the best I can get, but still remain AMD. Here are the rest of my specs:

Processor: Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40 GHz
RAM: 10 GB
System: 64 Bit
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6850
Resolution: 1920x1080

I am very new at upgrading, and pretty clueless about this whole thing. I appreciate any advice you all might have. Thanks.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I'd prefer to not go more than $250. Thanks for such a quick answer!

I also forgot to mention that my power supply is 450W, sorry. I realize that probably limits me greatly. My computer case is not very large either so I cannot use any cards that are huge.

A GTX 750 Ti would be the way to go. It's cheaper than your budget and will work well with your existing PSU. In terms of power efficiency, nothing else can compare.
