Hey all, I'm about to upgrade something in my computer, preferably the one that will give me more FPS in games. So I've heard from one friend that it's my GPU that needs to be upgraded (it's going to be a pretty big upgrade), but I'd like to confirm it before I spend the money! Here's my system:

AMD Phenom II X4 840 3.2GHZ Quad Core
Nvidia GTX 460 1GB
8GB DDR3 RAM
1TB HDD

Thanks all!

By the way: If I'm playing a game like Skyrim, it runs very well in dungeons, caves, and runs decently (20-30 fps) when outside, or in a town. Hopefully that can assist you in your decision.

EDIT: Should have asked earlier, but Radeon or Nvidia. My budget is around $200.

Not that i matters a great deal in the big scheme of things, but this is actually a Propus quad with no L3 cache. It will perform 5-10% less clock-for-clock compared with a Deneb.

We need to know your motherboard, PSU and RAM speeds.

You're roughly at the HD770-level (at twice the watts)

all the cards in that chart are 1gig cards and only reflect actual FPS and don't show how bad they still are inre to lack of vram ( 1gig vs 2gig ). However, the system in question is pretty well rounded and getting a card with 2gigs of vram may help with said problem, there's no way there will be any significant FPS increase.
