I just downloaded BioShock Infinite and I'd like to know if I can run it on ultra settings. (without cooking it). I have a Radeon HD 7870 Double D. What software should I use?

Solution
Unsurprisingly, your video card was made to run games without cooking itself. Ultra level graphics do not place any more or any less stress on your GPU than lower graphics settings. To test this theory, run the MSI Afterburner hardware monitor while running the game. Afterward, check the GPU temperature. If it stayed anywhere under 90c, then you have successfully played the game without damaging your GPU.

That's good to know. How should I go about monitoring my GPU while in game?

Hi,

If Furmark shows any artefacts or high temps under full stress then there is something wrong with your GPU. Stressing is the only way to confirm stability. In your case you are wondering about temps. This is the only way to determine how much will temps go when GPU and VRAM are under full load. If you pass this you'll won't wonder about any game.

use third party program such as msi after burner. in the setting windows look for monitoring tab and enable OSD (on screen displasy) on which parameter you want to see while in game. (fps, temperature, memory usage, gpu usage etc)

people usually use furmark to test oc stability but if artifact shows even running on reference clock (nvidia or amd original spec not vendor pre-oc setting) most likely there is something wrong with the card. but from what op mention in his first post i think he more interested in what kind of performance can he expect from his card. if so then he needs to look at performance review for the games he intend to play.

I believe OP is asking will he overheat or damage his card if he puts everything on max in bioshock. It's not the FPS performance question.
