Hello,

I just built this PC:

Intel 3930k
Sabertooth X79 Mobo
32GB Vengence 1600Mhz
Corsair H100i Cooler

And I'm running everything at stock speeds, except I loaded the RAM XMP profile so it runs at 1600 Mhz

and when I am rendering something, within 15 seconds, Core Temp says the processor is at 78 deg C

I am ideling at about 38-42 C

Anyone know why this would happen?

I tightened down the CPU block very tight, so I know that is snug on the processor....

did you apply thermal paste between the heat sink and the CPU?

Ambient Temp is about 20 C

I ran the Small FFT test.... and within 20 seconds it was at 78 C without any chance of stopping to rise, so I stopped the test....

About 3 days ago I could run Prime95 for 30 minutes and it stayed at 60-62 C .... but I don't know what could of changed....

I tried overclocking the CPU about 2 days ago... but decided to return to default (I reset the cosmos)

Thats another thing that was odd.... when I opened the CPU box, the cpu looked like it had fingerprints on it (the box was sealed though)

So I cleaned it with alcohol and a lint-free cloth...

Tap the radiator and pump a few times with the handle end of a screwdriver (while the computer is running, so the pump is working), not too hard. Sometimes air can be in the system which can cause reduced cooler - just like when you have an air lock in your cars cooling system.

Also running it with the case on its side for a few minutes, then running it standing up can help clear any air bubbles.

Try removing the H100i and wiping it and the IHS clean, apply thermal paste, and reseat everything.
