My computer tends to have a full system crash (complete shut down, no warning, instant black screen, fans stop and then auto boot) when playing more demanding games like Bioshock Infinite, Far Cry 3, and so forth. Now, I've figured out that I could play these games if I used MSI Afterburner to underclock my GPU and increase the fan speed to 80% Although, this fix isn't working anymore, now it's just becoming more frequent crashes. Without underclock, game will crash a few minutes. With, it used to be able to stay until I shut the game down but not anymore. Also, I thought it may have been a dust issue since the problem did only begin to occur a few weeks after winter break when I installed Far Cry 3 after my computer had been off for 3 weeks during xmas. But I just used compressed air to clean it as much as I could, a good amount of dust came out and the problem still remains. Any help would be greatly appreciated, for I am now clueless on what to do. And yes, I have done my research as to why this is happening, browsed many forums.

Specs:

OS: Windows 8
GPU: MSI OC GTX 660 TI
CPU: i7 3770K 3.5 Ghz
RAM: 16 GB Vengeance
PSU: Corsair 750W
MOB: ASRock Z77 Extreme 4

I assume you have uninstalled it, reinstalled it and updated the drivers so I will go from there.

If its possible try swapping out your GPU with another one, this would isolate if its a GPU issue (which sounds possible). You have an I7, so you could even run with HD4000 and see if you're still running into this issue. When you contact MSI about the GPU they will ask you this stuff anyway. Also check your event log after the crash, see if there's any information on there. Also check out GPU-Z and run that while you run your games, that will give you a temp gauge.

What case do you have?
Also can you get some temps for us during a run of any game that causes this shut down?
You should first run memtest 86+ to make sure your system ram is good.
If you could borrow another similar card to test with would be good or test your card in another system that is similar.
Get back soon...JQ

[strike]Well... Oddly enough... I changed my GPU to another slot on my mobo and it seems to run fine. No under clocking or anything was done and it ran with no problems for 10 minutes, max settings, bioshock infinite. Cheers for the responses guys, it was nice to see some people were here to help :)[/strike]

UPDATE: Nope, this didn't fix it. It let me play the game for about 10 minutes no underclocking or anything and then it crashed. Which is remarkably longer than it was in the other GPU slot. Although, I did notice that this happened as soon as I pushed the elevator button in Bioshock. Maybe it was trying to load something which made the computer crash? Any more thoughts guys?

Plus, is there a way to read temperatures from your computer from when it crashed?

Will try out i7 graphics tomorrow to find out if it's the gpu or not.

Here is an update. My computer didn't turn off completely this time, although in Arma 2 for the first time it just crashed the game, and I heard my gpu fan suddenly turn off. Check the graph and here is what I got.

UPDATE:
Just realized that this last crash was due to this error. Happened again while not playing games. This is new.

Seems your GPU temp shoots up at the same time the fan stops. Seems your fan may be faulty. That GPU hasn't been out long enough for the warranty to expire. Contact the manufacture with this information, they should be able to provide you a new card.
