Extreme temperatures using prime95 with stock settings

I've had this computer for about 3 years and recently thought about overclocking my system instead of, or in addition to upgrading my computer.

So after downloading prime95 and HWmonitor I thought I'd give a test run before I made any changes to my processor speed. In 2 minutes 2 secs of using Prime95 my Processor temps shot up to 77c or 170F at which point I stopped the test.

Here's a screenie of my computer stats with cpu-z

Here's a screenie of HWmonitor [after, not during stress test]
previously my minimum cpu temp was 44c and maximum of 66c
The Reason why my minimum temp changed is most likely because I stuck my window fan [the kind you stick in your window in your house] next to my computer which was in place while running the stress test [also i have the side cover of my tower completely off also was as such during the stress test]

From what I understand the temperatures I reached in 2minutes 2 seconds with Prime95 are quite abnormal. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Oh and those are the values I reached while performing a Small FFTs test.

I tried running a blend test as well but after hitting 69c on my core temps within a few seconds I panicked and ended the Prime95 process so I cannot provide the exact running time for that test. =3

ok yes there is a cooling issue but first there is a few things you need to know.

1 HWmonitor sometimes can give a odd reading so test multiple times and make sure its not just being odd.
2. check and make sure your heat sink is not plugged by dust / hurd of bunnies under the fan.
3 you can not go by core temps on an AMD as they are not reliable like Intel. you need to watch the actual CPU temp on AMD CPU's.
4. try a different program to monitor temps "NOT speedfan" as it has even more issues than most programs.

After cleaning out the dust bunnies with a small brush that came with some hair clippers i bought my temperatures dropped significantly !! My computers running a bit quieter now as well. Thank you sir =D what a simple solution who knew dust could have such a great effect! This is a screenie of HWmonitor after 23 minutes of testing with prime95 (small FFts).

While the temperature has indeed dropped significantly (both maximum and minimum and without the use of my window fan) it still seems to high to consider overclocking (correct me if I'm wrong). Maximum CPU temp at 73c and core temps at 60c.
I believe I remember reading that AMD processors should run a maximum of around mid 50's.
