Hi there,

I just bought a used custom system but found a better one that I also bought, and so want to upgrade the first one at the minimum cost so I can flip for max value.

Specs:
AMD Phenom II X6 1045T 2.7GHz Six Core Processor
8GB (2x4GB) Patriot Series Sector 5 DDR1333 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 1GB PCI-E Graphics Card
Antec Earthwatts 650w Bronze Power Supply
100GB SATA hard drive
80GB IDE hard drive (with IDE to SATA board)
Cooler Master Elite 430 case
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installed & original key provided

As I said, I'm trying to maximize the resale value while dropping as little extra cash as possible. To me, the obvious low-hanging fruit is the HDD situation. From what I can tell, both the drives currently on here are essentially worthless to a buyer. I'm thinking of pulling the IDE and adding a WD black 1TB 7200 drive.

Obviously, a hard-core gamer would prefer the black edition cpu (or an a10-5800/fx8350) and a better video card, but I almost definitely wouldn't get back what I paid, right? So I'm stumped on what else I can add that will give me a good return.

I probably don't need to add an optical drive, right? Or do I? Would a casual gamer (my target, I'm guessing) be put off this one if I don't?

Btw, I bought the system for $290 after shipping, and am hoping to get my money back or even make a bit.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Oh yeah...

But seriously, thanks for giving me your thoughts. Doesn't seem so crazy to me, though, that I'll get a little more back based on some of these completed auctions: http://bit.ly/14epoaf

Guess my best bet is to buy a cheaper lightly used HDD. No need for it to be a new WD caviar black.

On another note, I bet I could drop an a10-5800 in here and make even a little more after recouping costs. Too bad I'm cash poor now and it's not an option.

You'd have better luck parting it out, the depreciation of value of components is rather high. So I must second Finneous's comment.

However, there are some uninformed people who may buy it (based on the ebay listings you provided.)
