Dear all,

I am going to build my 1st Custom Built PC for gaming primarily and video / photo editing second. I have collected a list of parts and was wondering whether they will work fine with each other. I would very much appreciate it if you could give me some feedback on this :)

Processor: i7 3770K 3.5 ghz, 4 cores, 8 threads
MoBo: Asus PBZ77 - V Pro Z77 ATX LGA 1155
RAM: Kingston Hyper-X 8gb DDR3 2400 CL11
Graphics: Zotac GTX 690 or Titan
Case: Silverstone Redline RL04
Power: Antec 750 Watt 80 Plus Bronze
HDD: Western Digital 1 TB 7200rpm HDD
Cooling - Corsair H100
Monitor: Asus 23" MX239H, AH-IPS LED 1920x1080

Thanks in advance!

Thanks guys so far for your input.

Ideally I want something that is Crysis 3 proof in the years to come so that the only I will have to do is maybe upgrade the graphics card in the next 4 years or so, if that is wishful thinking :)

At the moment even with the Titan instead of the Geforce GTX my current bill for the PC is at 18,500 HKD which translates to around 2,255.80 AUD or 2509 Canadian Dollars.

So technically, I am looking for something that hopefully will not exceed 2,500 AUD.

Thanks in advance!

You could spend a bit less and get 2x7970 which perform WAY better than either of those cards...

If this is for gaming you can save some by getting an i5 3570k... it's cheaper and you really will never use the i7 to the fullest point.

Asus V-LK or Asrock z77 extreme4 or Gigabyte D3H will all work fine, you do not need some "upgraded" motherboard...

You should ideally be looking at 1600mhz ram, you will not feel a performance hit in anyway from the switch.

H100 is overpriced and underperforming, getting a Noctua D-14 is cheaper and a much stronger CPU cooler.

RAM : go for 16GB of 1600 rather than 8GB of 2400 as the price/performance is far better.

SSD : You should include a 120GB SSD in this set up then use Intel's SRT to decide what get's stored on it or just install the OS and Crysis. An SSD card is quite cheap and it will make your whole system feel much faster.

GPU : I would say the Titan is overpriced but then I don't have that sort of cash. If it was me I'd get a 7970 now and then add another in crossfire at some point in the future.

CPU : Normally the cheaper i5 3570K is as good as the i7 for gaming but Crysis apparently uses hyperthreading and you do video processing so I'd say stick with the i7.

Normally for gaming there's no point going beyond an i5 3570K but seeing as Crysis use hyperthreading

Ah thanks so much guys for all this quality input! I was worried with the 2x7970 because I read about Micro stuttering is a big issue even with the Powercolour 7990s. If I use the 2x 7970 it would be pretty power hungry so what kind of power supply would I need? Would I need water cooling for it?

I will definitely get the 1600 RAM, any brand that is particularly good or I should just go for any brand that is cheapest? Will also get the noctua thanks so much guys!

would not get dual 7970s until amd fixes their issues with runt frames

-go with a 2x8gb kit of 1600mhz ram. fast ram is useless
-a cheaper board like the z77-v LK is enough. no need for the v-pro
-go with SLI 670s from gigabyte or msi. get the ones with aftermarket coolers
- a cheaper case like a fractal r4 fits everything fine
-get the blue 1tb 64mb drive instead of the black edition. its not worth it
-get a nice large 256gb SSD. in hk, you can probably find the 840 pro
-get a proper CPU cooler like the nh-d14 from noctua. liquid coolers are a joke

microstuttering will be fixed now that AMD is aware of the problem. plus, there is tool called RadeonProTool which works to fix the problems.

and the 7970x2 setup is more powerful than anything Nvidia can deliver.

runt framing is not miccrostuttering. microstuttering is frame latency which amd isnt that good at either, but are fixing. runt framing is rendering incomplete frames, which amd has nothing like nvidia to get it working (amd has to do it through software while nvidia doesnt as its all hardware). amd as of now if they want a quick fix can use driver hacks but then will increase frame latnecy

Thanks guys so far!

Regarding the motherboard - the store that I am going to hit up for all my PC parts doesn't have the z77-v LK. They only have the following variants:

Z77-v LE PLUS
z77-v
z77-v LX2
z77-v LX

Which one should I pick? Cuz I will overclock the i7 to hopefully around 4.6ghz per core. Thx in advance!

WHY?
Get an i5 3570k. You will never use Hyper Threading from an i7 in gaming, games just don't support it and likely never will. Even with video rendering the i5 is not that much slower, it will take like 2-5 min. longer on an hour long render. Not worth the 150 USD more.
Then you're going to OC the already overkill CPU to borderline dangerous levels?!?! Wat?!

Doesn't seem like he can get the LK.Of his options the V is most sensible.
Yeah, the Zotac will fit,but it's a waste of space, get a dual slot card.

Called up the shop and they do sell the LK for $1330 HKD so it's all good :D Cheers.

Allanitomwesh, you say it is a waste of space, what might I use with that space apart from graphics?

Thanks guys! There's a massive sale going on with Gigabyte products - I was thinking of substituting the Asus MoBo with a Gigabyte one and use the Gigabyte 670 Windforce. Would much appreciate it if some advice could be had on what would be a good Gigabyte MoBo alternative?

Thx in advance!
