I'm building a gaming pc for the first time.
I've decided on the i5 3570K cpu and possibly the Sapphire 7970 Vapor-X Ghz ed.

I don't know which mobo I should go for, because I don't really understand the differences between them.

What is your budget? What size computer case are you going with? Do you have RAM picked out yet?

Motherboard - Gigabyte Z77X-D3H

Ever since Intel’s introduction of the Z77 chipset, motherboard giant Gigabyte has made huge leaps in in improvements on their motherboards all the way from the budget end to the extreme high end and the Z77X-D3H is a perfect example of what kind of top quality products can be achieved.

With support for PCIe 3.0, SATA 3 6Gb/s, 8 channel integrated audio, Gigabyte’s fully digital power delivery system, and ultra durable 4 features, it’s got a lot going for it.

I just love the Sabertooth series, take a look:

They have a military certification on the components and a five year warranty, so it should be very reliable. I have the older p67 model and it is great. Besides, I think it looks awesome.

OP, it is difficult to give accurate suggestions without first knowing your budget and what features are important to you.

As you have choosen the i5-3570K, you'll want a board with a Z77 chipset. This will give you the ability to overclock the CPU by adjusting the multiplier.

Next you want to choose the size of the board, probably ATX or mATX and this will depend on the case you want to use and whether you wish to use multiple graphics cards in the future.

All of the above suggestions are excellent options, but if you give us a bit more information we can more accurately suggest a motherboard that will suit your needs.

I'm using a mid tower NZXT phantom 410 and I'd like an ATX sized board. I'm not sure whether I'm going to XFire in the future but I'd like to keep the option and SLI option open. If I did I wouldn't go more than 2 cards. In terms of ram I'm going to get 2x4gb @1600 either g skill or corsair not sure about exact model yet.
At the moment my budget is around £1100 for my whole rig, so for a Motherboard I can afford to spend MAX £150 but would much much rather keep it at roughly £100-£120.

Budget about £1200 for the whole rig, for a motherboard I'd like to spend around £100-120, but if it really is worth it I could consider spending more. I'm going with a mid tower NZXT phantom 410 and for RAM I'm getting 4gbx2 either corsair or gskill.
