Problem:

I just installed the card yesterday, played it all day, didn't have any problems. I leave my computer on usually all the time. Came in this morning to play for a bit and I get the buzzing noise that a lot of other people were commenting on. I don't get it when the game is minimized, on loading screens, or somewhat static screens (for example; when SC2 loads before the login, there is nothing, but when kerrigan pops on the screen... it's really loud.; when skyrim loads or when it is on the front page, or even when I hit esc in game, nothing). It is quite audible, as the rig sits on the right side of me on top of the desk.

I've never had a problem like this before. I still have my 5870 2G Eyefinity Edition (which never buzzed). And I'm half inclined to keep it and put it back in and try to figure this out another way. But I wanted to ask you, the community, what is the best option.

I don't want to put headphones on, because I still would know it was making the sound. What would I like? To have it not make that sound. If that means bad reviews to get attention on Newegg, I will. If that means RMA, I will. I just don't want that sound for a card I paid top dollar for.

Edit: Few other things. Had WoW up and on maximize the sound is quite noticeable, but when scaled down it's almost non existent.

Edit 2: (Put this in the main post)

Well, this is quite annoying. Just called the XFX rep and he says that it's indicative of the 7900 series. He says they brought one into their support center so that way they could hear that it does in fact, "just make that noise".

That is just incredibly disheartening. RMA'ing it now.

So, what card should I get instead. I'm open to NVidia. Just something that is similiar in performance/price.

Or just keep my 5870 till the next crop comes out?

Splendid
from what I've heard coil whine is quite common in both camps. It's not harmfull or anything like that, just merely annoying if it gets loud or has irritating pitch to it...

Hope you have better luck with the next card, whatever it may be. :)
