Hi,

I am wondering about how the Auzentech X-Fi Forte 7.1 compares to today's sound cards? How much has changed in the sound card business over the last 4 years? This card was top of its class back in the day (2009) and got a lot of good reviews. I am wondering how it compares to the Asus Xonar DG, DX & D2X cards of today? Also what about the even higher range from Asus. How would the Auzentech compare with Xonar Essence range?

Thanks

That's a good question. I would love to see a Tom's review on sound cards...

They can always do something to alter (but not necessarily improve) sound. My question is have they done anything in the last 3 years that's worth while. Also wondering where my card places in today's sound card leader board.

Reason I made post.

I am looking to get the highest quality sound at the lowest possible price (music & games with positional accuracy). I bought the Auzentech X-Fi Forte 7.1 (second hand, 2 year old but fairly cheap) and order the Audio Technica AD700 to go with card. I got the card around 4-5 times cheaper than a Xonar Essence ST and well over half price compared to Xonar D2X.

I am trying to know if this was a wise decision? Did I get a good deal? How does this card compare to the higher end Xonar Essence ST or lower end Xonar D2X? Would I notice much of a difference if I had gone with either of those two cards? If there is a difference would it have been worth extra costs?
