Im finally making the jump to an ssd for my rig along with a brand new copy of windows 7 home pre, I've been looking at the Kingston hyper x 3k and Samsung 840 pro.I currently have a 4.5ghz 2500k asrock extreme 3 gen 3 z68 asus direct cu2 660ti 8gb of 1866 gskill sniper in a haf x with an h100i push pull with 2 200mm fans and 2 120mm sp120s, soon to be push pull with full sp120s so i need something aesthetically pleasing to my rig,as with custom rigs. Will i notice a real difference between most ssds in the real world ?

First, In real life day-to-day usage not much more than a nickels worth of difference between the better SSD.
Have the Crucial M4, samsung 830, and the samsung 840 Pro - I see very little performance difference. The Crucial M4 (simular to Plextors M3/M5) and the Samsung 830 have outstanding track records on reliability/Least user problems (Note: 830 getting hard to find).

Generally I prefer the marvel/samsung controller based SSDs over the Sandforce based SSD. For laptops I recommend the 840 Pro as it has about the lowest power consumption. For Desktop, I look at price and buy the cheapest of the ones I mentioned.

If Very little diff then 840Pro-> 830-> M4 or plextor M5.

It is very difficult in a real world setting (aka without benchmark software) to tell the difference between the fastest and the slowest SSD. When I shop for SSDs, the main thing I'm looking for is reliability.

Out of the two choices you've mentioned I'd go with the Samsung although I'm sure the Kingston would be fine if you preferred the aesthetics.

Since you like to max out performance of your computer, you won't be satisfied with any SSD based on your current setup. :) Intel motherboards are normally capable of Raid-0. Suggesting a dual SSD Raid-0 using a tier-1 SSD to maximize IOPS for your computer. Just have a regular backup plan.

Use Tom's SSD reviews & AnandTech Bench SSD for comparison shopping.
