2. How can it be identified new or old? Any particular number?

Thanks everyone!

I dont think they have changed and probably will not. Ivy runs hotter then Sandy thats a fact, many people are still de lidding them and dropping 20c temps in some cases. The amount of heat you get will depend mostly on the voltage used to get to the clock speed. The clock speed increases the current supplied a smidge, temps rise a little. The other guys posting here may have really good chips that need a lot less V to maintain a small o/c. Mine unfortunately takes 1.285 static volts at load (Ultra LLC on my board) to be stable at 4.4 ghz anything closer to 1.3 v and I get uncomfortably hot in Intel Burn test (just under 90c) and I didnt want to go over 1.3 anyway. Granted my cooler isn't the best. In answer to your question. Yes they still have the poor Thermal paste, but it won't bother you unless your shooting for very high overclocks at very high voltages :)

1. Not really. And it wasn't the thermal paste--it was the glue keeping the IHS on the PCB causing too much space between the die and the IHS. That's why not everyone saw temperature drops when they delidded their Ivy Bridge CPU.
2. I'm sure it's somewhere in the serial number, if you still want to know when they were made.

Interesting :) haven't found any reference to this, could you provide a link? I can only find articles about the TIM being bad. Thanks !

for a few 100mhz  NO MAN That's a £175 CPU !

I would rather like to know a batch no and search for a new cpu, if I only could confirm if it were true and the batch no..... like our good old nelham 3849B...
