I am trying to hook up both monitor and HDTV to desktop computer. Have AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics with both hdmi and regular output. When I plug both in only the TV is recognized. Monitor only has desktop background picture with no icons. Is there a software change I need to make?

well this can be done a few ways an easy way to do it,
press the windows key and p at the same time and select duplicate.
for the sound right click on the sound icon and select playback devices, click on the device you want to play sound (the tv
) and select "set as default".
you will have to do the same thing and select the other output if you want to put the sound back on the pc.
