For future compatability and expandability, I would recommend the M5A99X EVO R2.0 of the 2 you offered. It is the newest chipset, and will have a few more features. Additionally, if you intend to SLI it will support that, where as most 970 series chipsets will support crossfire but not SLI.

by enthusiast you mean a builder? i mean im planning on upgrading eventually, one by one, but my mobo fried and im trying to figure out a good new one. you think its worth the 50 extra bucks? just for differently placed satas? the 3rd PCI express i could care less about
any youd recommend? i was just looking at these cause i have the old version of them... m4A97x evo
