Hey all,

I'm really new to networking and VPNs so I will explain this to the best of my knowledge. I'm trying to access my Windows Vista office computer from my Windows 7 home computer. I originally wanted to do it with Remote Desktop Connection but I couldn't get that to work so thought I would try VPN.

At my office we have a T1 line with Cbeyond. There is an apple router connected to it which is just providing 2 wireless networks to the office to my knowledge. I couldn't get any ports forwarded through the apple router so I figured I had to do it through Cbeyond. I logged into cbeyondonline.net and noticed there is already a VPN server setup with them. I followed the PDF directions they provided and setup a new VPN network connection in Windows 7 and it connected to it fine with the user information I setup on the cbeyond page. But the status of the connection is always "No network access" for iPv6 and iPv4.

I went into the iPv4/6 settings and un-checked the "use default gateway on remote network" box because I read that helps but not for me!

Not sure what else to try.. can anyone help with the information I provided?

Well the first question is, do you own the company ? Just because you can connect to the ISP that the company uses to provide internet access doesn't mean you should be able to connet to your workstations at the office. This has to be a feature your company uses and offers for remote employee otherwise it could be a massive security whole. If your company does allow you connect from home using a non-company PC then check with your local IT to see if they would even allow you to remote into your workstation from home. You can setup VPN to only allow access to certain resources on a remote network.

No, I'm not the owner of the company. But I do have permission to do this.. Our main office is in NY and we have a remote office in GA. I am the closest thing to "local IT" for the office - our manager left about a year ago and the network just kind of stayed how it was and no one knows anything about it. Besides me there are only 2 other people at that office.. a sales rep and a customer service rep. Everybody already RDPs into the NY server to use the company software, even the people in NY. I just need to RDP to the GA network on my work computer there.. seems pretty straight forward but I can't get it to work which is why I chose VPN as the next thing. I would rather try to get the RDP to work but yeah I'm lost either way

Open the Connect to a Workplace wizard by clicking the Start button

, click Control Panel, click Network and Internet, click Network and Sharing Center, click Set up a connection or network, and then click Connect to a workplace.

also, did you really just give out your ip address to your workplace and pc, and mention there is no I.T. guy there to catch some one who wanted to poke around, and point out that any pc you get access to will allow you access to rdp to the ny office since all the users have rdp permissions... might be a good idea to edit out that stuff, no one needs that to help you.
