Building her now..can't wait to load the OS, apps and test. System config:
• Case: CoolerMaster CM Storm Series Trooper
• Motherboard: Asus Rampage IV Extreme 64GB
• CPU: Core i7-3930K Sandy- E. I'll OC it to a 4.8GHz target or better starting with a CPU ratio of 48 @1.35v ($570)
• RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB (4x8) DDR3 2400 XMP Mode
MD32GX3M4A22400C10 Quad Channel 1.65v Quad Channel 0-12-12-31
• PSU: Corsair AX1200i modular
• Cooler: Corsair H100i Hydro
• DVD BR: Two LG Blue Ray 14x Rewriters
• SSDs: Pair of Samsung 840 Pro 512GB SSD in RAID 0 with TRIM enabled (OS/Apps/Scratch)
• DATA HDDs: Four Seagate 3TB Sata III Baracuda HDDs in RAID 10
• CF/SD/SDXC Internal Reader: Uspeed USB3.0 3.5" multi card reader
• Display Card: 2GB Sapphire Toxic HD 5850 (Reusing existing 5850 for now - very good card, but plan to upgrade to a pair of Firepro V7900's in CrossFire soon)
• OS: Win 8 64-bit Professional with Classic Shell to boot straight into Windows Classic user interface and enhanced Start button
Planned Upgrades:
• ADDT'L RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB (4x8) DDR3 2400 XMP Mode (I use between 36GB regularly and occasionally more for my kind of work)
• Replacement Video: ATI FirePro V7900 2GB DDR5 30-bit Graphic Card in Crossfire
• Monitor: Dell UltraSharp 30" 30-bit U3014 30" 30-bit Monitor. Currently using a pretty good 24" display but want the 30-bit and wider gamut with CS6)
One thing I am still uncertain of is when I load the OS if I have to manually load the RAID driver before the OS install. The Rampage user guide says to install the RAID driver for Windows Vista and later, but nothing specific about Win 8. it says:
To create a RAID driver disk in Windows®:
1. Start Windows®.
2. Plug the USB floppy disk drive and insert a floppy disk.
3. Place the motherboard support DVD into the optical drive.
4. Launch Windows File Manager and locate the following path in the support DVD:
\Drivers\RAID\RSTe\Driver
Double-click AsMakeDisk.exe to launch the ASUS MakeDisk Utility.
5. Select the USB floppy disk drive as the destination disk.
6. Follow the succeeding screen instructions to complete the process.
The hen it says:
To install the RAID driver for Windows® Vista or later OS:
1. During the OS installation, click Load Driver to allow you to select the installation media containing the RAID driver.
2. Insert the USB flash drive with RAID driver into the USB port or the support DVD into the optical drive, and then click Browse.
3. Click the name of the device you’ve inserted, go to Drivers > RAID, and then select the RAID driver for the corresponding OS version. Click OK.
4. Follow the succeeding screen instructions to complete the installation.
I recall doing this using a copy off a USB Floppy I had made when building my i7-920 system with a pair of Intel X25M 256GB SSDs in RAIDo - I guess with Win8 this step is still necessary?

Mike
