Looking to upgrade CPU

I am looking to upgrade my cpu, what would be a good choice. To improve game fps. So, here are my specs right now. I have an AMD FX 6300, 8 gigs ram, saphire 7870, and an asrock mb 970ex4.
Any suggestions comments are helpful :D
If you do suggest something please TRY to explain why I am trying to learn :)

Few games can use more than 2 or 3 cores, making perhaps half of your 6 cores not useful.
Perhaps you can OC your current cpu to try to make them run faster.
Without changing your motherboard, I would not bother.
If you do want the best, the 3570K, and a Z77 based motherboard is about the best there is today.

You are at amd sweetspot actually.


The only upgrade for you - if you want to keep your current motherboard - is a 8320/8350.

Not worth the price premium over what you currently have as far as gaming goes.

I suggest you buy a aftermarket cpu cooler and overclock, then wait for the next gen of amd processors.

AMD has already commited the next CPU revision ( Steam Roller ) to be compatible with AM3+ motherboards. They will be released later this year.

AMD has also said that SteamRoller will be 10% - 30% faster than Piledriver (current FX models) and be more energy efficient.
