660GTX vs HD7870

Worth Mentioning the 660GTX in question is a 3GB GDDR5 model to the HD7870's 2GB GDDR5?

Looking at purchasing one of these
cards for around the same price point. Looking at Stats they both have strengths and weaknesses and Benchmark seems to vary by Benchmark tool. Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

The HD7870 is generally faster in games.
If you are thinking of getting a second one at some point, Crossfire is broken (AMD admits it), and may not be fixed until July; SLI works just fine, so get the GTX660.
If you have any interest in bitcoin mining, even as an exercise, AMD is the only way to go; get the HD7870.

These cards, performance-wise are very close and performance will vary depending on the game. Checking a review site like TechPowerUp, which has 17 gaming benchmarks, you can see that some games favor one over the other, but mostly only a few FPS separate them. So choose based on the games you like to play. 3GB is not necessary, but nice to have for some of the newer games coming out.

As a special consideration, decide if you want to play any GPU-accelerated PhysX games, if so, then get the GTX 660.
