I spend most of my time working in libraries and it's really ridiculous how much the clicking noises on mice can reverberate through a room. Why must they be so loud?

Are there any good quiet portable wireless mice out there? It doesn't have to be silent, just reasonable.

I hear that the Nexus Silent mouse is no good...

You must have a really noisy mouse! I just turned off everything in my room that makes noise and put my ear next to my Logitech mouse and clicked it several times. I literally could not hear a sound. All of my desktop and laptop mice are Logitech. What the heck are you using?

Thanks for the reply. Which of your Logitech laptop mice would you say is quietest (or if you only have one, which one is it)? I have been using my wife's M310, and I'd prefer to get something a little less noisy. I imagine it must seem strange to be so noise focused, but I work in library study spaces where I'm often sitting 5 feet from other people and it is considered very rude to whisper...

LOL... You must not be in Municipal Public Libraries. The ones I frequent have long ago lost the silence protocol.
My laptop mouse is a Logitech V450 Nano laser cordless mouse, my desktop has an older Logitech Media Play cordless optical mouse, and my 2nd machine has a Logitech LX7 cordless optical mouse. The one I used in my first reply was the older Mediaplay.
I've never had to consider the quietness of the mouse before, so I never paid any attention to that when I purchased. Probably the best suggestion would be to go to a retailer where they have an assortment laid out for demo and test them.

Cordjoy, I just purchased the M310 last night at Walmart and just put it back into the packaging to return it - same problem you mention, the loud clicking. My Logitech optical mouse is quiet compared to the Logitech M310! Also, for my taste the indentions (inward curves) on the sides are too pronounced.
