Hey guys,

I am working on building a new midrange gaming PC and was wondering if I could get some of your valuable input on this. My budget is $600.

I would like to go with Intel CPU/Nvidia GPU setup if possible but know those are the most expensive.

In my initial research I was basing the performance on Crysis 3 recommended system specs. I'm not looking to run every game on high settings. Just most of today's games on mid to high settings. I don't over clock either.

Thanks.

Nice. Thanks for spending the time to post this. This will really help in guiding me. Question: I am unfamiliar with ASROCK motherboards. My experience has always been positive with ASUS motherboards. I have an K8V Deluxe that is still running to this day. :p Is ASROCK good?

What are your thoughts on this case instead of buying the PSU and case separate? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119269

No, absolutely no on the case - Apevia cases are complete garbage. Pay a few bucks more and get a quality case like a Corsair 200R or an Antec 302, it's worth it in the long run. Don't get a junk case under any circumstances.

The power supplies that come with cases are generally extremely poor quality. You don't want to get the wrong PSU or have it short out or blow up and take your system with it. That would not end well.

If you want to play Crysis 3 on high-ish settings, avoid the i3 at all costs. Get a quad core of some kind. Crysis 3 eats up dual core CPUs...you'll bottleneck any card you pair with it. I don't care if you buy a pentium quad...get a quad core.

I would recommend AMD, but you don't want to go that route for whatever reason...so, based on that...get an i5 if you're going intel...i3's are underpowered for high end games, and that isn't changing...ever

EDIT: Look at the reviews on this site, an i3 with a top end gpu (GTX 680) gets frame rates into the high 20's low 30's on high settings, and that's barely playable.

The main reason I want to get an Intel is because I've always bought AMD and want some experience with Intel's. Plus I've read so many positive reviews about the i series processors. I almost always had an AMD/RADEON or AMD/NVIDIA setup. Now I want to try an Intel/NVIDIA setup. Maybe sound stupid, but I just like hands-on experience.

I was pretty much already leaning toward going i5 so I'll most definitely now from your feedback. Thanks.

Yeah I was kind of thinking the same thing about the case coming with a PSU. The site doesn't even give any specs on it. I agree with you about the long term. I was trying to figure out what are the best quality cases that will last a long time. So Corsair is the best?

A cost effective, well insulated, high quality case with LOTS of extras for a bargain right now is the Zalman z11plus...I have the case, it's all steel and aluminum, and it's very well made, plus it is setup with bottom mount PSU config and it has everything in place for cable management, and you can put a TON of case fans in it if you need to...I think it's only $65-68 right now online.

HAHA! If you found it for $46 then scoop it up! It was like $60 something on newegg.

Yeah Apevia definitely is the antithesis of quality - they aren't by any stretch of the imagination. I had an Apevia case - the LED lights fell off, the front USB ports shattered, the temperature gauge was broken, and eventually the door fell off.
