Hey I'm going to be building my own system soon and I was wondering what people think about the difference between these two processors? I plan on primarily using my system for gaming. I'll be using an ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2 motherboard and EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 660 2GB graphics card (NOT the Ti).
Thanks.

FX8350 for $179 on Newegg is a great deal, you should do the 8350 hands down...

The i5-3570k is not drastically superior to the FX8350, the benchmarks do speak for themselves...research the games you play...if you like games like Crysis 3, Far Cry 3, Metro 2033, BF3, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider...then you'll be pleasantly surprised to find out the 2 are closer than you would think.

Somehow it deleted the entirety of my post!

The 8350 is superior to the 8150 in every way. However, with the recent price spike of the 8350 to $199 and the price of the i5 3570k remaining at $220, the 3570k is a far better option unless you 100% have to have an AMD (I don't know if the mobo is already purchased or if you just decided that was what you would buy). The only things that the 8350 beat the 3570k in are highly threaded applications, and there are currently very very few games if any) that will utilize the strength of the 8350. This is coming from a guy that has almost exclusively built AMD machines, but the benchmarks are undeniable.

I have not actually purchased anything yet, no. I am trying to sell all my xbox 360 crap first and wait til I can start raking in summer paychecks (I am a college student). I have just been assembling things so when I have the money I can buy it all at once.
I don't NEED an AMD, no, but I really don't want to get any i5 or i7 products, so that's mostly where things lie. Also, while, for most games that are currently out getting the 3570k or the 8350 would make a difference, I'm trying to think ahead as much as possibly within reason of spending an insane amount of money, that way the way I build my system I won't have to upgrade quite as soon. Thoughts?

...What? I'm staring at the 8350, and it's $199; I'm also staring at the 3570k, which is $219

But when you're spending $1,000 on building your system, long term, what's $50? :) You know?

Well then I would absolutely grab the 8350 right now on newegg with their promotion for $179 if you would strongly prefer the AMD brand, it won't be that cheap again for a while. Best of luck on assembly!

Haswell is going to be more expensive than Ivy, it won't change much of anything, and with AMD his upgrade path is assured through 2015 minimum. Plus, haswell is a lot of hype, the hard numbers are 5-6% gain over Ivy...

Consider the fact that both the next xbox and ps4 will be using AMD 8 core processors and graphics to power their systems. If you buy the 8350 it will future-proof your system because games will finally be able to utilize all 8 cores effectively.
