Os won't load

So I was just gaming on my custom pc that I've had for about 2years. Then my pc turns off and decides to restart. It gets to the motherboard splash screen then a black screen with a blinking _ bar on the top left hand side. Now it just stays on that screen. I'm thinking it might be the hard drive but any other suggestions. The fans all run and light are all on. Please advise

Hi

Run a hard drive test in DOS... HIRENS BOOT CD etc, it sounds like a failing hard drive... do NOT do this if you have an SSD...

If that passes, run a Windows REPAIR...

It sounds like your bios lost its boot setting when it turned off. I would go into the bios and check that your hd is the first boot device.. Hope this helps...

could you test that hdd in another system and do you have something on the monitor like this lost signal ?

Ok guys I took my pc to one of my local pc shops. They ran a diagnostic and found nothing wrong with my hardware... They told me it might need a full OS wipe and reinstall or it could be the motherboard. I ran a system restore from my windows cd and it restored the OS. But then i restarted the pc to fully enable the system restore the exact same thing happened. It loads the up to the point right before the OS system. Black screen and blicking _ bar on the top right hand side. So before i buy a new mother board any suggestions?

Go into the BIOS and load default settings. If that doesn't work then I'd look at getting a new motherboard.

Ok i bought a new motherboard. Installed it successfully and still have the same problem... It starts up, all fans working, and all lights working. Gets past the motherboard screen into a black screen then just restarts. and does the same cycle over and over again. The really weird thing is that when it restarts its just the motherboard i think. The fans all keep running and so does the components. It just reloads the bios and mb settings. really am sick of this problem. any help please

also when i insert the windows cd it goes to all the repair functions and stuff just wont let me wipe the OS and says there are no problems detected in it.

use your drive maker test tool there is a strange behavior from your hard drive .

give the full name and model of your hdd and will link you to it that the software they use to test there drive for error .

Seagate Barracuda XT 2TB Is that what you needed?

use the seatools for windows http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/ it is also available in dos this will test the smart and short and long test and if you see a fail report drive need to be rma .
