I am trying to re-install Flight simulator X on my computer, but it threw up an error that upon googling, told me I needed to install MSXML 4.0 on my computer which I tried to do. I downloaded MSXML 4.0 service pack 2 from the microsoft download center, got to the installing part, and received the error: An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {74974F83-779E-3983-A06B-D6B9ABF34537}. HRESULT : 0x80070308.
I just cannot get my head around it. I have tried every single solution/workaround that I can possibly find on the internet, all to no avail. These include: booting clean state and trying to install, removing any existing MSXML entries, trying to manually install KB updates (which I can't). Also tried doing a sfc scan, did not find any errors or corrupt files. One solution I found told me to delete the dll for MSXML 4 from the system32 folder. Here I found the dll files for MSXML 3 and 6, but not 4. When I tried to delete them it told me I needed permission from TrustedInstaller. Whether or not this is causing the issue I don't know but it will not let me delete these files.
Thanks in advance for any help, its greatly appreciated because at the moment this problem is doing my head in.
